Life of an American Fireman 1903

Engine 219 and Ladder 105 have a over 245 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Brooklyn, New York. However, Engine 219  ans Ladder 105 have only been quartered within the same firehouse for the past 30 years. Prior to June 2, 1977  both companies were single houses located approximately one half mile away from each other.

Engine Company 219 was originally organized as Engine Company 19 of the Brooklyn fire department on December 24, 1880. At that time Engine 19 was located on Deans Street on the corner of Underhill Avenue, three blocks East of Engine 219's current quarters. On October 1, 1899 ,one year following the merge of all the fire departments in the five boroughs, one hundred number were added to the engine companies of Brooklyn and Queens. Engine Company 19 of
Brooklyn became Engine Company 119 for the New
York City Fire Department. On January 1, 1913, with the increased number of fire companies being established in New York City, Engine 119 was reorganized once again to the company we know today, Engine 219. Engine 219 would turn- out of it s quarters at Dean Street and Underhill Avenue for another 64 years before moving in with Ladder Company 105.
